First impression

Male Digital looks like one of those big non exclusive gay DVD video sites that are usually good for getting you a ton of porn for a cheap price. The tour is certainly enticing, talking about 1506 movies, hundreds of hours of gay porn, and an update every day. The member's area is identical to the tour, and is laid out to get you to the many different navigation options. The main sections run across the top, the updates are listed front and center, and there are three different drop downs allowing you to choose between movie, category, and series.

Our opinion

I like that Male Digital makes it easy to get around the site, but doesn't fall into the trap that some DVD download sites have. They tend to all look the same, and although there are only so many ways that you can make a site like this look different, they managed it while still retaining the user friendliness. The other thing that caught my eye was their message talking about the importance they put on safe sex, that although they offer bareback content they encourage safe sex and have had everyone tested thoroughly.

There are 263 DVDs in total, and the 1507 movies figure comes from the individual scenes from each of these DVDs. The daily updates are individual scenes, so it can take several updates for a DVD to be completed. I'm not a big fan of that simply because you know that you're going to hit an awesome intro scene and be dying to watch the rest of the DVD, but you might have to wait until the end of the month to get there. Along with standard gay categories such as amateur and leather, they do have a hefty bisexual collection that is easy to access, as you can filter to just those DVDs right from the navigation bar.

The individual video pages are simply laid out, with a front and back shot of the box, categories, the models, a trailer, and then a few preview caps for each scene. One thing that they probably should have included would be hotlinked model names and categories. That's pretty standard on this type of site, so its absence is pretty noticeable. Scene sizes vary but tend to be between 15 and 30 minutes long, with the full DVDs usually hitting 90 minutes.

You click through once more to get to the scene's video options. This page is laid out rather nicely, with low and high quality streaming Flash options first and foremost. Underneath that you have two different WMV downloads and the Quicktime download. Finally, off to the side, there's a link to the screencap version. The lowest quality video is 360x240 and 878 kbps – and it actually does look pretty good, thanks to the bitrate. You could easily use that for a portable video version, or if you just don't want to wait for the twice as large download that the high quality would put you through. Speaking of the high quality video, it's 720x480 and 2.12 mbps. The quality of the camera work and the feel of the videos obviously varies greatly between DVDs, but overall the quality is definitely there. The Quicktime version is 320x240 and 1.5 mbps. All of the downloads are DRM free, and are available as full scenes only.

The screencap sets are around 150 pictures per DVD set (around 25 per scene). However you don't see any sort of photo content too often on a DVD download site, so it's nice to give you a preview of the action while you're waiting on the downloads. The caps get the highlights of the scene nicely, and are shown at average cap quality 720x480. There are no zip downloads or slideshows for these galleries.

Conclusion

Male Digital does a good job at making an easy to use gay hardcore DVD site. There aren't many of them catering to the gay market, and the mix of over 30 categories makes sure that there is something for everyone. It's not mind blowingly amazing, but it is a lot of good quality gay porn at a great price, and worth checking out.
