First impression

Ed Powers has been a staple in amateur porn for years, with his most famous productions having been the Debutantes series of DVDs. This is his official website where he has put together a huge number of his full length DVDs and other porn movies and pictures.

His focus is on amateur girls who in many cases are filming porn for their first time ever. The site looks to offer a lot of scenes and pictures, and promises hi-res media options across the board.

Our opinion

Ed Powers is an American director, producer and actor in hardcore pornography movies and the guy who brought the world the Debutantes series. Those DVDs found real amateur girls who had never been in porn before and put them into masturbation, hardcore and sometimes lesbian sex scenarios on the camera. The series was a huge success, but Ed has done much more besides.

He's had a hand in introducing new models to the world, such as Nadia Nyce and Aurora Snow, as well as helping girls already in the business increase their profile and fame. He's won several AVN Awards as well as been included in the XRCO Hall of Fame. With more than two decades in the business he hasn't shown any sign of slowing down, either.

This is his official home online and as such you can find all of his DVDs as well as other amateur content he has produced over the years. There were 1,900 full length DVDs here at the time of my visit. These included The Real Naturals, Dirty Debutantes, Cockless and Bus Stop Tales.

He also has many scenes that aren't part of his DVDs and are only online here. These also star amateur girls in a mix of hardcore, masturbation and lesbian sex.

If you are a fan of classic porn then Ed Powers' site is even sweeter for you; much of his work is a decade old, or older. If you're looking for hot new releases there aren't quite as many here.

Quality was a little hard to pin down here. The older movies from the 90s aren't high definition and don't look all that sharp -- they've probably been converted from VHS tapes -- and even newer stuff can be a little rough. I would say that's because Ed is still into the amateur and low-fi style. He isn't covering girls with makeup and special lighting. He shows them off as natural as they are and has fun with them. You do find some scenes that look a bit more "professional" in their composition, lighting, etc. but these are exceptions to the general rule.

Ed Powers offered several ways to view his content that include both full length and short clip downloads and instant streaming video.

The streaming video player is quite large, and has a screen size of about 900x700 pixels, though the quality of the image isn't quite as refined as your download options can provide.

To download you can pick from four full length options. The largest and best option is a Windows Media file with a 640x480 screen (1.8 Mbits) that look sharpest. Other options include a QuickTime download with a 720x480 screen (1.2 Mbits), an MP4 download with a 320x240 screen (700 Kbits) and another MP4 file optimized for iPods.

Running times could vary quite widely. Most movies were in the 20-40 minute range but you'll find some that are shorter and several that are even more than 60 minutes long from start to finish.

Picture galleries are included here as well and are quite diverse. All the images are amateur and galleries can either be groups of random pictures or several from the same model. One set can offer 3 photos, the next 100. Images are 1200x800 pixels and not really hi-res, as the tour promised. They look good for being amateur pictures, though. You can browse through them in an online gallery or download the galleries complete in a compressed zip file. Recently there have been a few new sets that are in fact High res and stand out from the other galleries - they are also quite a bit larger sets with over 200+ images in most. Lower quality sets have been added since the high res sets were added, so it doesn't look like he's changed formats, just laid hands on a few higher quality sets to share with members.

Ed's website was pleasant enough for browsing, with a menu that lets you jump straight to photos, movies, models, DVDs and the other extras he promised which include erotic stories and audio files. There are five fully fledged bonus sites including Lacey Starr, 3am xxx, Bruce Seven Films, Latex Pussy Cats and Sexy Momma. It's a good selection of sites that add a load of content and value to your membership.

Ed stopped updating a while ago as he is now retired.

Conclusion

Ed Powers has a large site, and for surfers into classic amateur porn there won't be another site like it that can offer you quite the same experience. His collection is very large and features both his DVDs and his web-only content. On the other hand, though the site offered lots of porn and lots of amateur girls, the dated content that made up most of the library left it feeling a little flat. If you're coming in looking for recently produced amateur porn movies and pictures, you might be disappointed.

Competitors

Ed Powers is a big name in amateur porn but there are lots of sites out there competing with him in 2011. They won't generally have the same "classic porn" appeal as Ed's site but are definitely worth looking at if you like real amateur women and a mix of hardcore, lesbian and masturbation sex.
