First impression

To get started you won't have to spend any money. The whole site was started on the concept of connecting real people like you and me on cam for free. It has since added pay-for features like private chats, tipping, and much more.

You can look through the entire site as soon as you visit, checking out what sort of models are connected and what number. At the time of our visit there are about 100+ models registered in each main category: male, female, couples and transexuals, though not all of them are online (most of the girls and guys were connected at the time, though).

There's nothing quite like getting something for nothing in online porn, especially when it's real, live interaction with naked models. I created an account and to get the full effect I also paid for a few hundred credits to toss around and play with, so read on for my full opinion after we finished my visit.

Our opinion

Chaturbate is one of a few quality cam sites that are genuinely free of charge. That isn't to say that you can't also find ways to spend money here, but there are several cams you can sit in on without spending a dime and enjoy actual live interactions, including full nudity and even masturbation (which is of course one of the main interests for models and viewers). To get a full experience it is worth grabbing some credits, though.

Genuinely Free With Additional Pay-For Features

They really do give you free access to web cams. While not all of the free chats you can sit in on are going to show the hottest girls totally nude, you will come across quite a few models who are happy to sit topless, masturbate and giggle for their chatting fans. Usually this is in return for lots of tips from those in the chatroom, but you don't necessarily have to be tipping anything to ride on along on the coattails - just don't go around demanding things from girls you aren't tipping and you should be all right.

I think it is more fun when you have some credits and get involved. Tips can be anything you want. 10 credits, which is about a dollar in real money, could get you a smile and a thank you from the model, maybe a flashing. A lot of times the girls treat the rooms as a collective - if all together the room can tip up to certain predetermined amounts the model sets, they will do certain things for everyone watching. This is nice, because you can enjoy the company of a model for a long time, chipping in with tips from time to time and really spending very little while enjoying a fun, very explicit show.

You can also take girls private and get their full attention.

The last option is to spy on group or private chats. In the case of the latter you won't be able to interact but it is much cheaper to watch this way then to have your own private show.

Not Many Cam Models

There wasn't a huge number of models and that is probably the site's only real weak point. There are about 100+ girls and 100+ guys connected, plus a dozen or more couples and trannies. At peak hours these numbers go up higher but even so, this isn't a network offering thousands of cam models. I think that is probably intentional, though. It's a tight community and the girls are all friendly and into being on cam and teasing their followers. They also host lots of different contests for the models that usually involve the cam viewers, too, which is a fun way for everyone to interact and help out their favorite girls. All this being said, more models online would be a definite plus.

Great Quality Cams for the Most Part

Just about every cam I sat in on or went private with was a smooth, good quality stream. The girls with an HD badge in their thumbnail have even higher quality video and sound to offer but this isn't true high definition. These cams look pretty fantastic, though, and are better than what a lot of the larger cam networks I've visited can claim to offer.

Many Features and Ways to Interact

There's a chat room with every cam where you can talk to the girl and the others watching alongside you. Integrated are the tipping features mentioned. You can private message models if you want to ask them something about what they might do in a private show or anything else you don't want to share. Members can also purchase recorded videos and pictures for tokens, which is a great way to support the girls you like best. Another great thing about Chaturbate is that about half of the token's value goes directly to the model's pocket (5 cents of each token, which cost around 10 cents each depending on the package of tokens you purchase). There are larger cam networks that pay much much less back to their models.

You can help out your favorite girls by sharing links to their profiles and live cams and this will also earn you some free tokens. Various contests, usually based on the cams with the most viewers in each hour, are run every day all day.

Occasional Free Shows with Porn Star Babes

Could Use More Filters for Browsing Cam Models

The site is easy to use and does a great job of being transparent when it comes to buying tokens and spending them, updating your account on the screen in real-time and asking you to confirm every action that uses tokens (and in the confirmation telling you the tokens you're about to spend). The site could use a better set of filters for browsing through their models, though. You can look up models based on gender and location, but they don't have any way to look for girls with big boobs or girls who do anal, etc. Those features would be nice, especially as the site adds more models.

Conclusion

Chaturbate is genuinely free but also has some awesome and affordable pay-for options and features.

They've done a very nice job with the site. The only thing I wish they had were more models, and that a large percentage of those models be more attractive. Otherwise the site is really quite fantastic and quite affordable. Built around community, tipping, and showing off, they've got a very positive atmosphere here and it shows with the models who are fun to watch and interact with. If you're looking for a cam site that's easy to jump into then this one is it.

Competitors

There is one cam site in particular that is worth investigating. It's called My Free Cams, and it works in much the same manner as Chaturbate. It is a little bit larger and has a few different features but is otherwise very similar. You'll find all types of amateur models and couples connected around the clock and have the same free features plus the ability to buy credits to use as tips or for private shows.

Naked.com is another live cam favorite of ours. The site is more expensive and built more around private and group shows but its community is second to none and they feature some real babes among their cam hosts who masturbate with sex toys, tease, and have sex on camera for their viewers.
