First impression

I have a definite thing about bears, so when Bear Pass proclaims it's the “Ultimate gay bear mega site with the hottest bear men on the planet” I just have to take a look. There's a variety of bears and bear action promised, from young cubs to burly bears. The tour has a very amateur feel to it, and the webmaster's enthusiasm about bears comes through in every photo and paragraph.

The member's area continues the amateur feel of the tour. The content is a mix of exclusive and non exclusive, so each bear offering is provided in sections. There are nine different categories to choose from, divided up by the specific site the content is offered from.

Our opinion

The webmaster makes no bones about some of the material being non exclusive at Bear Pass, and given how little bear content there is I don't mind seeing the fresh stuff combined with things you'll maybe see if you look really hard. This doesn't appear to be super widely distributed material for the non exclusive content, so chances are you'll be seeing it for the first time. There are your standard bears, younger bears, bears in fetish, hunky bears, and older bears. They do seem to have most bear subniches represented, so that you don't have to go anywhere else to get the bear action you're craving.

The video listing pages are pretty plain. You're just getting a bunch of thumbnails on the main page of each section. There are 71 videos and 462 photo sets. The tour claims updates are added 3 times a week, but it's hard to confirm without dates on the content.

The videos give you the option to download or stream each episode. The only section with videos is Video Bear, so hopefully you enjoy it there if you're a bear video addict. Choosing to stream the video in Flash takes you to a separate page where a 640x480 and 700 kbps video is given. The quality is good amateur, although in some cases the lighting felt somewhat weak. The download is offered in WMV at 720x480 and 700 kbps. The bitrate is a bit on the low side in both cases, and could have used improvement. Video length averaged out at 20 minutes a scene.

The photo sets dominate the rest of the bear sections, so you'll see plenty of hairy hot photos. The galleries use Photo Web Album, which is a gallery template software. You might have seen it before, but if not it just outputs basic galleries. There's nothing super fancy about the galleries – just a thumbnail strip along the top of each individual photo page so you can navigate the set without popping back to the main gallery page. Photo quality varies from section to section – some are great like XXX Chubs at 768x1024 and Bear Fetish at 600x900, but others are very small and murky. That comes with the territory in non exclusive and exclusive content mixtures, however. Set sizes also vary greatly depending on the source.

Conclusion

Bear Pass provides a photo heavy gay bear experience for a good price, and even though it's not all exclusive you shouldn't pass it up. It's a very bare bones user experience but the content looks generally good, and the variety of bear action is just irresistible.
