First impression

Chances are you have heard of the Colt Studio Group before, but if you haven't they're a gay studio that has one hell of a penchant for picking up plenty of hot studs and pornstars that are always up for one hell of a romp. It looks like they have two other studios in addition to the Colt line presented here - Buckshot and Olympus. It's not exactly one of those massive non exclusive DVD deals, but that is an advantage here. You're getting a much more focused set of porn, and the quality control is going to be a lot higher. Plus Colt is just a badass studio.

As expected, the member's area is essentially identical to the tour. You have your categories off in the sidebar, overall sections across the top, and the latest down the middle. There's a bit of advertising for other products that they have, but it doesn't get in the way of the content so I can't complain. Further down you have the most popular sets and models. The only thing that they're really missing from a standard studio setup is a keyword search of some sort.

Our opinion

If you're in the mood for professionally shot porn, then I already know that Colt Studio is a good one to turn to, and it looks like they have a decent online setup as well. They update once a week, and there are 441 videos available. While that might not sound as much as some similar gay DVD sites, when it's primarily composed of only a few studios that's a damn good number. You're getting a good representation of niches here, although you will be best served if you're looking for hot hunks getting hardcore. One way in which they set themselves apart from other sites of this nature is with providing HD videos. Not only that, but they clearly mark it. It becomes apparent that Colt Studios really goes for user friendly features.

The video pages look great, with a 960x540 streaming window that allows you to pick between high quality, low quality, and HD streaming (for those that have HD videos). This is a streaming only site, but they do have great buffer times. The difference between the three qualities is in the bitrate – the HD is looking about a 3 mbps, the high quality is 1 mbps and a 640x360 window (letterboxed), and the low quality is 360x180 and 800 kbps. Underneath the video you have the various categories that the videos are given in, the models involved, and the particular studio. You also get linked to all over scenes in that DVD, as well as other scenes featuring the model. If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, you'll find any related photo sets.

Although I assumed that these were screencaps at first, it turns out that they do have actual photoshoots with the particular model. These are smaller, to the tune of around 20 to 30 pictures per set, but given that most DVD sites don't bother with photos at all it was a welcome surprise all around. They are very good quality, shown at 800x1200, and gives you even more of a model that you might want to check out in a different setting.

I was pretty impressed with their bonus shows – they have a free live show every day featuring one of their studio models, and you're going to be drooling once they start. They do upsell other cams on the same page, but that one show is free and clear for you. In the VIP section, there's a sample (well, four hours) of a show put on by their nude male dancers (another colt site) as well as wallpapers.

Conclusion

Colt Studio Group is a well done studio DVD site, featuring streaming videos of their own, as well as a handful of other top quality gay porn studios. Although some may be disappointed by the lack of downloads, the buffering time is fast and the Flash videos look excellent. If you like hunky pornstars doing what they do best, you're going to love Colt Studio Group.
